Come to the May Meet the Authors Event!

Aspiring young writers and avid readers, from grades 6 thru 12, will mingle with peers, published authors and book industry professionals featuring several guest speakers, followed by a writing workshop.  This event will highlight the art of fiction – the short story.  Guest authors include Valerie Fioravanti, Robert Yehling and Flatmancrooked.  Valerie writes fiction, essays, and prose poems. Stories from her linked collection, Garbage Night at the Opera, have appeared in North American Review, Cimarron Review, Hunger Mountain, and others. These stories have received four pushcart prize nominations and Special Mention in Pushcart Prize XXVIII.

FLATMANCROOKED published its first anthology, First Winter, which included the work of Ha Jin, and a new Jorge Luis Borges translation. Flatmancrooked publishes a fiction and poetry anthology, novellas under the New Novella imprint, and novels under the HyperLimited imprint.

Writing Workshop: What’s the difference between a short story, a novella and a novel?  What happens when your short story wants to become a novel? In this workshop, you’ll learn some of the basic approaches of starting, finishing and writing short stories.
